Christ at Thirty Three Heinrich Hofman

You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and all your soul and all your might.
The picture of Christ by Heinrich Hofman is is my favorite painting of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior.
I remember this picture as a child and I still treasure it. It has hung in the basement of Antelope Hills church for many years. I don’t know exactly why I like this representation so much, but the artist somehow has captured the ruggedness of Jesus in that he came to live as a man, enduring all that any human could face including temptation, even death and yet by the power of the Holy Spirit, He shows us how to live. This picture also somehow captures Christ as God. There is great compassion in His eyes and you can sense the tenderness that flows through Him as he loved the world with the Father’s love. Finally there is something so wonderfully subtle in the light around the face that seems to indicate a cross. It is there but it is not glaring as it reminds us of the great sacrifice of our Lord for the sins of all the people in the world..
Dear Friends,
I desire to serve and be used by God as teacher, pastor and counselor. If I can be of service to you in any way, don’t hesitate to contact me. I am available at any time and I do care about each one of you. If you are visiting our site and need a caring friend, someone to listen to your concerns or have other needs, please contact me.
This notebook will be somewhat different than my sermons and different than our newsletters. It is here that you may find a fuller version of a quote, a thought or reflection and or even a story with a theological pondering or two. Check back from time to time and send me an email with your thoughts.
In His service and yours,
Steve
The 116 that I often use is in reference to Romans 1:16. I am not perfect, but Jesus Christ is! I am not ashamed of Him and His power to save us. As John Newton states, “Two things I remember. I am a great sinner and Christ is a great Savior.” It is beyond my capacity to comprehend the redemptive love and power of our Savior but it fills me with joy when I thank Him for saving us.
